I had so much fun with Miss A. and her aunt! It is refreshing to work with someone who is down for anything, throws out her own ideas, and will try anything I ask of her (within reason, of course). She is gorgeous, funny, and she’s smart. She was even accepted into the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA), an exemplary high school rated one of the top ten in the nation in 2014. She’s got everything going for her. She can give some killer looks, too. For her session, we headed to Downtown Fort Smith. We began at her aunt’s place of business, Vogue Aesthetics, to capture some with it’s vintage charm. Then, we made our way around the area to shoot with some cool murals painted by The Unexpected, in some cool alleyways, and on top of a parking garage. But I can’t forget the most exciting part! We came across a cool cobblestone road that had a random arched stairway along the sidewalk, so we had to stop to get some shots. Since it is a seldom used road, we were out in the middle of it. Then we spotted a patrol vehicle headed our way. We all exchanged glances.

You always hear all those cool stories on t.v. or the radio about police officers getting called in to settle down “rowdy” youth only for the police officers to show up and join them in their basketball game.

Well, that’s kind of what happened to us. I don’t think anyone called him. I think he was just out patrolling and saw us. But he was so easygoing, he played along with us and pretended to arrest our senior girl AND he let me take pictures of it. It is definitely an experience this senior won’t soon forget. I really enjoyed our time together, Miss A.! I can’t wait to see what your future holds for you!

Here and here are two more of my favorites.

It’s hard to believe…

how much can change in just a short amount of time. My baby brother has gone off to college now and though he’s only been gone a few months, he has already changed so much! He has really come into his own. His style has changed, his hair has changed, even his body has changed. I think it would be interesting to take some pictures of him now and place them side-by-side with these to see just how different he looks. It’s strange to think about how I might have changed if I had gone the college route straight out of high school (but I am pretty darn happy with the way my life turned out). Brandon plays tuba in the Arkansas Razorbacks marching band and he placed 3rd chair overall straight out the gate! I am so proud of my littlest (so to speak) brother! You are handsome and brilliant and I know you’ll excel wherever this path leads you! I can’t wait to find out!

For his senior pictures, we started at Lake Alma at sunrise and then headed to downtown Fort Smith to get some with murals from the first Unexpected project. The Unexpected artists returned to this area in September. I saw some that they did in Fayetteville. I am always blown away by the enormity of the project and talent.

This time last year my [not so] little brother was adamant that he was NOT getting married and he was NEVER having kids. Just a couple of months later he started dating Chelsey and his mindset completely changed! Now he’s getting married less than two weeks from now. This just goes to show that the right person can change your mind in a heartbeat. I was more than happy to take their engagement photos (as well as their wedding photos *gasp*). We adore Chelsey for so many reasons and welcome her into our family with open arms. She fits right in, too, with her boot-wearing, shotgun-shooting, outdoorsy self. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that my little bro fell for her! Plus, she comes from an even bigger family than ours. So she knows how to speak up, which is something my family admires. I love you, Tres and Chelsey, and I’m so happy for you! If you missed them a couple of weeks ago, you can see more of my favorites over here, here, and here.

Family Photography | Fort Smith Historic District

This little fella was turning one. So of course we needed to get some sweet pictures of him, Mom & Dad, & Grandma & Grandpa! We headed to the Fort Smith Historic District. If you haven’t made it out there, you should go! It is so beautiful! Little Scout was on the move the entire time. (Don’t you just love that name?!) I definitely got my workout in that day. It has been a bit since we did these. Now he is walking (and maybe running) everywhere! But this sweet boy and those amazing blue eyes are so worth it!

This sweet and fun family have become close to my heart as I’ve gotten to know them over the past year or so. They have a very unique and beautiful home. This Dad has put a lot of his own hard work into it and they chose the comfort of home for their session, making it more of an Alma lifestyle photography session. Don’t those smiling faces on their girls just make you smile, too? It took a lot of work on my part, however, to get the youngest one to finally smile for me. But one of my absolute favorites from this is that last one where Dad is tickling her. It is such a precious moment to catch (they didn’t know I was photographing them at the time). Love those girls. Love that family.
